Founding of the KKK in 1865
On Christmas eve in 1865, former Confederate soldiers established the first chapter of the Ku Klux Klan in Pulaski, Tennessee.
The KKK was devoted to white supremacy and to ending Reconstruction. The first leader (or Grand Wizard) of the KKK was former Confederate Lieutenant General Nathan Bedford Forrest.
Until this day, the first Grand Wizard of the KKK is “honored” in open sight, as buildings, parks, schools, streets, and even counties are named after him, a clear indication that our nation has yet to come to terms with its past.
